It’s not that we didn’t know that Lady Gaga listened to rap, it’s that…well, I guess we didn’t know that Lady Gaga listened to rap. She guested on Wale’s “Chillin’” a few years back but has since shown little, if any, hip-hop influence since then, with Beyoncé’s contribution to her “Telephone” and the quasi-rap breakdown to “Born This Way” being about as street as Gaga gets. And besides, we figured if Gaga had any hip-hop leanings these days, they’d probably bend towards the East Coast and her hometown New York.

Unexpected, then, that Gaga would give a rather extended shouotut to an underground West Coast rapper like Kendrick Lamar. Not that it’s undeserved, mind you—Kendrick is one of our favorite new rappers of the last handful of years, and we are anxiously awaiting his commercial debut LP good kid, m.A.A.d city later this year. But still, look at all this Twitter-flirting—at least some of which was supposedly done from the crowd at Kendrick’s gig at last weekend’s Pitchfork Festival in Chicago:

Damn, man. We get that the two are labelmates on Interscope and all, but this is pretty intense stuff for two pretty disparate music peeps. (And all this after Lamar called Gaga a “real good friend” in a recent Source interview.) Could a collaboration be in the works? We’ll be checking in on the gossip rags for that one. In the meantime…someone wanna let us know the best way to dance to “The Recipe”?
